![]() The contestants are also another story in the world of eSports. “I’m slightly out of my depth,” concedes Kern. A small controller with a dozen buttons but no pedals and no feel for the car. But even for someone with his level of experience, driving without a steering wheel is a completely different story. He’s also very good at transferring his skills to a racing simulator, thanks to the steering wheel and the software’s high degree of realism. In 2017 he drove a 911 GT2 RS to a new record for road-authorized sports cars on the Nordschleife-a sensational 6:47.3 minutes. Kern is a test and development driver at Porsche who spent many years as a race-car driver. A few seconds later he’s flying through the “Green Hell” again-on the screen of an Xbox console video game. He takes a quick look at the controller in his hand, searching for reverse. “Well, that would normally be the case,” he adds with a smile. "Curtains!” yells Lars Kern as his Porsche 911 GT2 RS comes to a crashing halt against the barriers on the Nordschleife of the Nürburgring. That will continue to be the case in the future. "Transformers" and other indica trademarks of Hasbro and/or Takara.Car races are decided on the track. The original and still the best version of this mould for me - 8/10 - assuming you like Gobots. The car mode looks sweet, the robot mode's not as cool but still nice. None as such, but recoloured several times - Blowout who's almost identical, Frenzy, the many versions (at least 5) of Hot Shot/Artfire.Ī good Gobot mould and a good colour scheme, and while Megatron is a weird candidate for a Gobot, it's a good fit for him. The colours are good and the mould's good. While it's a small robot mode for Megatron, it works, and you can buy that this could be Megatron (unlike Gobot Soundwave). ![]() The play value's in the car mode, anyway. It's not great, but for a $4 toy it's enough. Poseability is about what you'd expect of a Gobot - his shoulders rotate. Sure, it's not a gun, but it looks like a powerful bad guy's colour scheme. Two things about this paint job are worth mentioning here - the first is that this grey does have a sheen do it, the second is that this shade of grey again makes this believable as a Megatron robot mode. The facial paint is a little thick - it hides the details of his facial moulding. His face is painted blue (the same shade as the legs). The silver paint is now confined to Megatron's chest, with his arms being the basic grey, his head and thighs black and his lower legs blue. Pull down the rear to form the legs, fold down the hood to form the chest, pull out the arms. The simple colour scheme works very well, the level of detail is good and I've not had any paint chipping problems despite this toy being covered in paint. One of the better Gobot moulds, and somehow a silver Porsche is a fitting car mode for Megatron. That's about all for the play value, but for a $4 toy I'm not complaining. None of these details are painted, so it's subtle, but considering that for a $4 toy the paint mask would have invariably been riddled with paint spills, I'm glad they left the details unpainted.Īs with all Gobots, Megatron has front and rear axles, and can roll quite well, and is designed to fit into Hot Wheels tracks. Megatron has door seams, door handles, side mirrors, an engine grill behind the rear window, popup headlights, taillights, an indent at the back for a licence plate and even front indicators. The moulding detail's pretty good for a toy this size. The black of the tyres is actually the only part of this mode unpainted - the silver body of the car is actually a metallic paint over the base plastic, which is grey - not that you can tell from the topside - there’s some hints underneath where there's some robot kibble present. ![]() He has chrome silver hubcaps painted onto his tyres. This mode is pretty much entirely silver, with black windows and black tyres. A silver sports car that's either a Porsche or meant to resemble a Porsche, Megatron actually looks pretty good in car mode.
